Combating Stress with Adaptogens

Combating Stress with Adaptogens

Change is all around us. In spite of all these changes, we still live and work in a busy world that requires us to be consistent and show up on time.

We have dynamic beautiful families that need healthy foods, a nice clean place to live, and clean clothes. On top of that, they have schedules filled with school and enrichment activities. Our partners would like to see us, as well, as we try to nurture a meaningful relationship. And what about our friends and social obligations? Or time for exercise or self-care time?

The point I’m making here is: we live full, beautiful, and hectic lives. This level of activity day after day, week after week, is stress-FULL. Stress, as we all know, leads to “dis-ease.”

With such a bountiful schedule, we do not have time to be sick with a cold, much less something more serious than that. This is how and where adaptogens come into play. When adaptogenic herbs become a regular part of our daily healthcare routine, they can help to prevent physical and emotional illness and burnout!

Role of Adaptogens in Our Modern Lives

The class of herbs called adaptogens are defined as: “herbs that increase the body’s nonspecific resistance and vitality, helping the body adapt to and defend against the effects of various stressors and increase work capacity and efficiency and ability to concentrate.”

Simply put, adaptogens help to minimize stress reactions and provide protection against the long-term effects of stress.

The importance of adaptogens was discovered in the former Soviet Union. They had lots of seriously hard work to do, and they had people working day and night, constantly trying to keep up with the demanding physical labor that was required of them.

Physicians and other scientists realized that if they gave the workers adaptogens, they worked longer and harder and could produce more!

I am not suggesting to just keep burning your candle at both ends and take a few adaptogens every day and it will be all right. But if you are so busy that you're running from one thing to the next, then please consider adding adaptogenic herbs into your daily routine, especially in the forms of teas or tinctures.

Once you start to notice the benefits, you can sculpt your schedule into one that allows for time for rest and restoration.

Allow yourself time to eat slowly, breath deeply, laugh unabashedly, and live fully, on purpose.

Adaptogenic Herbs

Adaptogenic herbs inclue Eleuthero (Eleutherococcus senticosus), Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum), Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra), Tulsi- Holy Basil (Ocimum Sanctum), Koren ginseng (Panax ginseng), American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius), Rhodiola (Rhodiola rosea), Schisandra (Schisandra chinesis), Nettle (Urtica dioica), Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), and Astragalus Root (Huang Qi)

  • We include Eleuthero in our Man Alive tea for the men in our lives. Eleuthero has the ability to help improve mental stamina, clear thinking, strengthen immunity, and ensure overall vitality.
  • Ashwagandha and nettles are primary herbs in Woman's Balance Wellness Tea. Ashwagandha is famous for its ability to support your body to rest when it needs to rest, energize you when you need more energy. Two different women can take Ashwagandha, one woman will take it to help with hyper thyroid, the other for hypothyroid. Guess what happens? The both experience a normalizing effect. Adaptogens are so good like that! Nettles are so nutrient-dense that they are liquid food! Their iron and chlorophyll content oxygenates our red blood cells, improving our energy levels.
  • Ashwagandha is also found in Fertile Ground Tincture because of its ability to help women increase their libido, regulate their menstrual cycles, and improve their chances of conception.
  • Ashwgandha and licorice are the stars of another lovely tea blend called Root Me Deep. Not only do adaptogens have a harmonizing effect on our endocrine system, but they also have a positive influence on our emotions. Root Me Deep is for the person who is in a constant state of stress and anxiety. They feel scattered and ungrounded. This blend helps root a person down to the present moment, thus helping them move gracefully through their day.

You don't have to keep burning the candle at both ends any more!  Take a deep breath. Drink more adaptogenic tea.
