So is Birth Song Botanicals and we’re here to share some of our own postpartum tips for new moms below. Keep reading to learn about all things post-birth recovery.
Postpartum Tips for New Moms
There is an entire world of advice on how to make life easier after giving birth. You’ll find books, blogs, and general advice galore…but how can you tell the good from the less-than-perfect? It’s difficult, but we stand by these three postpartum tips for new moms!
Take Care of Yourself
Number one on our list of tips for new moms is to take care of yourself. Duh! This is easier said than done, of course, but it’s so important to remember your own wellbeing. Taking care of yourself looks different for different women, but some general self-care habits you can start using include:
- Get enough sleep – Try matching your sleep schedule to your newborn’s. If that doesn’t work, try scheduling your sleep. It might sound silly, but it will definitely help!
- Make time for hobbies and passions – Even if it’s just an hour or two a week, this time will become an invaluable source of comfort and a wellspring of strength for the rest of your responsibilities
- Make use of family – Whether it’s a partner, parents, siblings, cousins, or even friends that are as good as family. You might feel like you’re burdening them, but trust us, they’re excited to spend time with your baby and help out
- Indulge in postpartum herbal baths – Nothing is as relaxing and soothing as a hot bath. Try our Postpartum Herb Bath for Mom and Baby to really indulge both you and your newborn!
Exercise in Moderation
While it’s tempting to hit the gym right away and start getting back into pre-pregnancy shape, don’t do it! Most OB/GYNs and midwives agree to wait at least two weeks before exercising again, and many will even say hold off until six weeks. If you had a cesarean delivery, then you’re going to want to wait until your doctor gives you the green light to go to the gym.
Once you do start exercising, take it slow. Pay attention to your body and how it’s responding to your workouts. Avoid going overboard or pushing yourself too hard. Remember that it took nine months to give birth and it may take as long, or longer, for your body to recover fully.

Rounding out our list of postpartum tips for new moms is to make use of herbal supplements for postpartum depression.
